We can’t quite believe that Christmas is nearly upon us! However, we can’t act surprised because we’ve been handed all the warning signals - just last week; Oxford Street illuminated the shopping haven with its Christmas lights, John Lewis graced us with the wonderful #Manonthemoon advert and over at QuidCycle HQ, Jason has been a month premature in playing Michael Buble festive songs to the mixed-reactions of the office. While we all work away listening to the mesmerizing “It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas”, it is safe to say, we couldn’t be more excited. However the present for that special someone or tongue-tantalising turkey for dinner will definitely cost a few pennies. So we have put together a list of things for us and you to do to earn some extra cash! One thing we can promise with these pointers – even though you may move couple of notches down on your belt this Christmas, you will hopefully have some spare cash to buy a completely new one. Happy Reading!
1. Empty Those Cupboards
When looking for “Earn Cash Quick” schemes, you will often be presented with Car Boot Sales and similar hectic events. In this technological age, we have many more efficient ways to make some money and get ride of your unwanted goods, that don’t include a battle with the cold Winter morning and voracious bargain hunters. Schpock is a brand new app that describes itself as the “boot sale” app. Selling your stuff could not be easier. Simply create a profile, take a picture of your old gear, list it for as little as 69p and wait for the offers to fly in. Who would have thought that someone out there also wanted to own the Legally Blonde 3-Film Collection? (Not us……)
2. Clothes can go too
We all have that pile of clothes at the back of the cupboard waiting for a suitable occasion to wear it. If you have kept it for over a year without wearing it, it’s time to let it go! Very similarly to the above suggestion, there is a super app for that - Depop has turned eBay on its head and has made it incredibly easy to get rid of those garments. Again, make a profile, take a snap, post it up and wait for those offers to be made. The buyer can decide to pick it up from you free of charge or pay the extra for you to post it. Easy as pie. Depop take 10% of the final fee but all of that cash left over can go straight towards some essential Christmas shopping or your savings account.
3. Rent out your parking spot
With the rising costs of parking on the streets in the UK, and even more so in London where a huge number of roads completely illegal to park on - JustPark have snuck in with a wonderful app that introduces a whole new world of spaces. For us savvy Christmas savers this is yet another great opportunity to make some money. If you have a parking space that you aren’t using (i.e. space in your drive, field, parking lot etc.), post it up on JustPark, state its availability and allow the rest of the world to make the most of it. A great way to earn some extra cash per hour or rent it out for the whole day for a fixed price. It could be the best Christmas ever - you wake up with a Ferrari in your drive!
4. Rent out your rooms
You may have to double check if you have been living under a rock if you haven’t yet heard about AirBnB . A beautiful idea that has allowed homeowners to open up their spare rooms and top up their bank accounts. Not only can you now pay peanuts to cozy up in a wooden gypsy hut in the Scottish Highlands but also add to your bank account by freeing up your own space. You have the option to let out single rooms or even your whole house if you aren’t planning to be at home for Christmas. A great way to earn cash quick and in doing so, you might just find an A-lister putting their feet up with you to watch the evening news.
5. Spread your skills
We are sure that a large number of you will have a special skill that is currently not being tapped into. Whether you are a mini Mozart, a secret Sam Smith or a Walt Disney in the making, Peopleperhour and Fiverr are two great websites where you can make a bit of extra money with your talent. Both platforms allow you to exhibit your expertise ranging from design, animation, music, writing, programming, advertising, tech…. the options go on forever. Any other user can then select you to do small projects or tasks and allow you to get that quick cash! However, if a skill isn’t jumping out at you, have a look at the “Jobs” section and see if there are any jobs that people need done that take your fancy. We have just seen a user asking someone to “rap a short little story” – Our colleague Olly, has found his calling.
6. Get one step ahead
We have definitely exhausted the options for this Christmas but how what about thinking of next year. Investing with QuidCycle for 1 year using our mighty SwiftInvest can get you a wholesome 3.9% APR! I am sure that dwarfs any interest that could be gained from a traditional bank account AND your money is going to help the people of the UK gain financial freedom. Christmas has come early for all.
Well that wraps up our guide to earning a little extra cash this Christmas. We would love to hear from you, if you choose to try any of them! Otherwise, we have some terrific updates coming with regards to Movember and International Men’s Day so keep an eye on our Facebook and Twitter.
Love from the QuidCycle team!
